About Tom Burke
Tom Burke, a freelance writer, has been a sports writer for over 40 years, covering mostly college hockey. He wrote for Hockey News for 18 years and as a New York Times college hockey writer for 7 years. Burke then became Eastern College Hockey’s first national correspondent. He has been the announcer for Boston College hockey for 27 years and Boston College football for 39 years.
About the Tom Burke Papers
This collection is made up of three series. The first is Game Summaries of the hockey seasons between 1973 and 1984. The second series contains reporter notebooks from the years 1975-1979. The third aseries is a miscellaneous collection of corrspondence, newspaper clippings and articles about Boston Hockey, and miscellaneous articles and press releases from different regional conferences and tournaments.

Collection Contents
Series I: Game Summaries, 1973-1987
These game summaries are made up of game results, newspaper clippings, and press releases from the season. In addition, there are detailed summaries of each game that goes into shots on goal, saves, and penalty minutes, including name of player and type of penalty. There is also other information that corresponds with the summaries that varies between each season that Tom Burke documented. The summaries were complied during the college year and each year was housed in separate three-ring binders, the materials were kept in the original order but placed into folders.

Series II: Reporter's Notebooks , 1975-1985
These notebooks contain handwritten notes by Tom Burke when planning what to write for different pieces over the years. They also contain quotations from different players, coaches, and administrators to aid Burke in writing his articles.

Series III: Correspondence and other matierals, 1965-2003
The bulk of this series contains correspondence between Burke and other professionals in the news industry, advertising companies, and administrators in different hockey commissions. There are also articles, pamphlets, and results from different region colleges, tournaments, and conferences, such as the Beanpot, AHCA, ECA, Boston University, and Boston College. Also included are newspaper clippings, press releases, and photos collected by Burke.
