About Samuel Wilkinson
Samuel Wilkinson (1 March 1831-16 July 1892) was born in South Berwick, ME and resided in Somersworth, NH (formerly known as Great Falls) where he married Julia A Davis, of Somersworth, on July 12, 1860. Wilkinson enlisted on Sept 4, 1861, mustered in Sept 18, 1861 as a private, 4th Reg, Company F and mustered out Sept 27, 1864. His regiment was initially assigned to the southern theatre – South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida - before returning north to fight at Petersburg and Richmond, and to participate in the retaking of Fort Sumter. After the Civil War, he and his wife lived in Lewiston, ME.
About the Samuel Wilkinson Diary
The diary was written in an unused ledger book and covers the two-year period from September 1861 to October 1863, and from January to April 1864.
