About the Outcomes/Antecedents Assessment Inquiry project
In October 1989, M. Daniel Smith of the Dept. of Education received a grant from the USNH Innovation and Opportunity Grants program to conduct a project he called “Outcomes/Antecedents Assessment Inquiry”. He recruited a representative group of faculty from the schools and college of the University to form the assessment group. Their goal was to “explore the problems and potentials of assessment of broad intellectual outcome of the University and related antecedents as far as possible… to attempt to develop acceptable means for identifying such outcomes and for collecting information from students, and then to draw initial conclusions and make recommendations regarding further work in this area.” The project began May 1990 and concluded in July 1992. Participants in the project were M. Daniel Smith, Education (Coordinator); Ann Kelley, Nursing; Patricia Bedker, Nutrition; Neil Niman, Economics; Samuel Shore, Mathematics; Yutaka Yamamoto, Philosophy; Samuel Smith, Animal Science; John Voll, History.
About the Outcomes/Antecedents Assessment Inquiry files
These files contain the correspondence, minutes and attachements, homework assingments and reports from the members of the Outcomes/Antecedents Assessment Inquiry group. The original project proposal and final report, written by M. Daniel Smith, are included. In 1996, Smith sent a copy of the report and supporting documents to the president's office "in case it should come up again."
