Technical Services

Student workers in Technical Services perform a wide variety of tasks supporting the receipt, cataloging, processing and bindery prep operations of the department, and the library's mail services. We rely on student help to unpack and examine incoming books, process them for shelf readiness, assist with in-house binding or the preparation of commercial bind shipments, and process package deliveries for interlibrary loan. Some of the tasks involve computer work, including production of book labels and maintenance of online catalog records; other jobs involve filing, shelving, and shifting of books, the retrieval of books from the stacks, etc. Although no library experience is necessary, an interest and facility in detailed work is desired.

We expect each student to work at least 10 hours per week during the hours 8 to 4:30, Monday through Friday only.
