Loan Department
The Loan Department is responsible for the staffing of 5 service areas in Dimond Library; the Loan Desk, Reserves, Periodicals, Micoforms, and the Multimedia Center. In addition, the Loan Dept. is also responsible for the general stacks maintenance and upkeep of the open collections on Levels 4 & 5 and the Bound Periodicals collection on Level 2.
Basic job functions of Loan Department Student Assistants are:
- Shelving and checking the order of books in the stacks
- Circulating materials and assisting patrons at service desks
- Searching for materials
- Shifting and relocating Library materials
- Other projects as needed
Students working for the Loan Department are expected to work 10-12 hours per week, which includes 1 night shift and 1 weekend shift. The remainder of hours are during weekdays and are scheduled around the students class schedule.
The Loan Department is the largest employer within the Library, employing approximately 75 student assistants.
