Government Information

Government Information employs three students, each working between 10 and 15 hours per week. Student workers do a variety of tasks, including receiving, processing, and shelving books and journals. Other tasks may include shelf reading, material shifting, searching, and special projects.

Students also answer phones and assist librarians and staff in the department, helping patrons with print and electronic resources.

Work shifts fall between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM Monday through Friday.

We have one additional position for a Map Room Assistant:

This position is for six hours per week.

You don’t need to have extensive knowledge of maps and cartography, but you do need to be interested in learning about different types of maps and enjoy working with them. No previous map-related work experience required.

Typical routine jobs include: processing shipments of new maps, filing maps using several different filing schemes, and performing simple map repairs. The assistant may also be involved in more complex projects related to the air photo collection and online digitized maps.
