About the Northam Colonists/Dover Historical Society

The Northam Colonists (so called after the original name for Dover) was organized in 1895 and officially incorporated on September 1, 1900 under the leadership of Mrs. Henry Parker. In the early days, membership was contingent on proof that the applicant was descended from one of Dover’s early settlers and members were responsible for conducting and reporting at meetings on some aspect of local history. In the spring of 2001, however, the Northam Colonists approved a name change that more clearly represents the purpose of the group as it is now configured. Now named Dover Historical Society, membership is open to all who share an interest in the history of the area and of the people and institutions that made the area unique.
