About the New Hampshire Academy of Science

The New Hampshire Academy of Science was founded May 24, 1919 as a result of a plan by the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The primary objectives of the Academy included advancing “the cause of pure and applied science and of scientific research with emphasis on their relation to practical affairs,” co-operating “with educational institutions of the state for the improvement of scientific education,” and encouraging “a closer union between science and industry.” Annually, members of the Academy met to elect officials, report on the status of science in New Hampshire, and present their latest scientific research. The Academy ceased to exist in the 1970s.
