Eleven letters, 1939-1942 (4 handwritten, 7 typed), ten of them to Elisabeth Mary Swift and one to her sister Agnes Swift, both elderly students of poetry whom Sarton taught privately, and eighteen poems (including “Elegy,” “The Teachers,” “Winter-Jasmine,” “Question,” “End of Summer,” “A Poem For Women,” “While the Great Moon Rises,” “Legend,” “In Praise of Music,” “New Mexican Santos,” “The Sacred Order,” “The Just Exchanges,” “Intimation,” “Allegory,” “A Rose for Rilke,” “Villanelle,” “The Scholar Mourns,” and “In Praise”). Also a newsclipping of Sarton’s review of Jean Giono’s Joy of Man’s Desiring.
