About James Duane Squires:
James Duane Squires (1904-1981) was born and educated in
North Dakota. In 1933, he received a Ph.D. in European
History from Harvard University and he subsequently taught
at Colby-Sawyer College, where he later chaired the
Department of Social Studies for many years. His published
works include books on British propaganda and New Hampshire
history, notably the four-volume The Granite State: A
History of New Hampshire. Squires served as a delegate to
the 1952, 1954 and 1964 Republican National Conventions.

The James Duane Squires Papers consist of correspondence and
materials dealing with Squires’s participation in the 1952,
1956 and 1964 Republican National Conventions as a delegate
for the State of New Hampshire. Additional material
relating to the Republican platform is included in the 1964
Convention material, since Squires was a member of the
platform committee that year.
