Greeley, Horace, 1811-1872

MS 41
Letter : to L.U. Reavis, St. Louis journalist, 1867 Nov. 4.
1 item.

One page letter in which Greeley explains his stance on the question of women’s suffrage.
“You ask me for reasons for or against Female Voting. I can give neither…I hold it a question for Women only. Whenever a majority of our Women shall indicate their deliberate choice to be enfranchised, I shall feel bound by my adhesion to the great fundamental principle that ‘Governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed’ to urge and vote for their enfranchisement.”
