About the Ruth H. Carter Papers

Fourteen letters written by May Sarton, poet and novelist, to Ruth H. Carter, and three from Carter to Sarton, revealing a warm friendship between them. Included is a 1984 limited edition Christmas card of Sarton’s poem Absence, an inscribed copy of Letters to May, two photographs, one of Sarton with her dog Grizzle, the other of two of Sarton’s pets, and newspaper clippings. Three additional letters to Carter, one from poet Robert Francis, one from Fred Rogers (of “Mister Roger’s Neighborhood” fame), and the last from Jane Sheridan, and two photographs of Carter, are also included.
