For Windows 2000, XP
From the Start Menu, choose "Settings", then "Control Panel".
Double-Click on the "Network and Dial-Up Connections".
Double-Click on "Local Area Connection".
Click on the "Properties" button.
Double-Click on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)".
Ensure that the radial button next to "Obtain an IP address automatically" is filled.
Click "OK" until there are no more properties windows open.
Reboot to ensure that the changes that we have made take effect.
For Windows 95, 98
Close out of all other programs you are running. The configuration will require you to reboot your laptop afterwards.
From the Start menu, choose "Settings", then "Control Panel".
Double-click on the "Network" icon.
Click once on the "Configuration" tab. Double-click on "TCP/IP" to open the Properties.
Select "Obtain an IP address automatically". All the IP address information below should then "grey out".
Click on the "WINS Configuration" tab and choose the option: "Use DHCP Server for WINS resolution"
Close the window by clicking on "OK", which will reboot the laptop. Rebooting
is
necessary for the operating system to access the network properly.
