Access to Borrowing Services

Borrowing privileges vary by patron type. Many services, including Interlibrary Loan and access to electronic resources from off campus, are only available to UNH students, faculty, and staff. Please contact us at the Information Desk of Dimond Library to determine which services you may be eligible for.

Free Borrowing Cards

Current University System of New Hampshire Students, Faculty & Staff

Your institution ID serves as your library card.

Alumni/ae

  • University of New Hampshire

You will need a photo ID and we will verify your graduation.

Boston Library Consortium (BLC) Institutions

Current students, faculty, and staff from members of BLC institutions are eligible. You will need a current Boston Library Consortium card and your institution ID.

New Hampshire College & University Council Consortium

Current students, faculty, and staff from members of NHCUC consortium are eligible.

  • Your institution ID serves as your library card.
  • You will need to provide your school ID and proof of your current residence (such as a utility bill).
  • Consortium patrons have a six-item borrowing limit.

Oyster River Students & Employees

You will need to provide a photo ID. Students have a two-item limit and a temporary card until parental approval is provided.

Residents of New Hampshire

You will need to provide a photo ID and proof of current residence (such as a utility bill).

Other Free Borrowing Categories

Purchase Borrowing Cards

Residents of Southern Maine

Residents over 18 years of age who live in the "03---" zip codes of southern Maine can purchase a resident card for $60 that is good for 12 months. Seniors, age 62 or older, may purchase a resident card for just $48.

You will need to pay by cash or a check made out to "UNH" and provide a government-issued photo ID as well as proof of your current residence (such as a utility bill).

Corporate Accounts

Corporate Accounts (profit and non-profit) may borrow from the UNH Library for $250/year plus $15 for each library card issued.

Questions & Where to Register

If you have lost your library card, we can replace it for a small fee ($1) as long as you can provide us with a photo ID. UNH students, faculty, and staff will need to contact the UNH ID Office regarding lost IDs.
