Fines & Fees

All library fines may be paid at the Dimond Library Circulation Desk. If you received a bill containing library fines and have a question, please contact our Billing Supervisor at (603) 862-3887.

You can appeal a library fine by filling out a fine appeal form and returning the form to the address indicated.

Books, CDs and Audiobooks

  • Overdue fines: $5 per item more than 10 days overdue that have not been recalled
  • Recall fines: $10 per item not returned by the adjusted recall due date sent by email or mail. There is no grace period for recalled items. See more about recalling items.
  • Presumed lost clerical fees: $20 per item overdue to the point it is presumed lost

Replacement costs

  • Replacement costs: standard replacement is $75.00 for materials in Dimond Library; the actual cost may vary to reflect the actual replacement cost
  • Damage fees: books returned damaged in any way (ink, pencil, water damage, pets, etc.) are subject to a minimum fine of $5 per book at the discretion of the Billing Supervisor.

Course Reserves

  • Overdue fines: $1/hour for most items, up to a maximum of $50

There is a replacement charge if an item is not returned before charges are posted to the University Business Office.

Laptops

  • Overdue fines: $5/hour
  • $5 charge if the laptop cord is returned broken
  • Replacement and damage fees: Replacement charges for any broken or missing components, including the laptop, cords, or accompanying devices.

Multimedia

  • Overdue DVDs, CDs, and Audiobooks: $5/item
  • Overdue headphones: $.50/hour
  • Overdue reserves: $1/hour, up to a maximum of $50
  • Overdue Parker Media Lab equipment: $5/hour per item, up to a maximum of $50
  • Replacement costs: Vary to reflect the actual replacement cost of the item. A minimum of $5 is charged for any lost or damaged item.
  • Presumed lost clerical fees: $20 per item overdue to the point it is presumed lost

Periodicals

  • Overdue fines: $5 per item
  • Replacement costs: Vary to reflect the actual replacement and binding cost of the item and a clerical fee of $20. Items two weeks overdue are billed for replacement.
