Guide to the Trust for New Hampshire Lands Papers, 1986-1993

Collection number: MC 125
Size: 14 boxes (4.66 cu.ft.)

About the Trust for New Hampshire Lands (TNHL)

The Trust for New Hampshire Lands (TNHL), a non-profit corporation, was initiated by the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests to address the conservation of New Hampshire Lands. The Trust was incorporated in the fall of 1986 for a period of six years. It immediately began fundraising to support its activities and lobbying for the passage of the Land Conservation Investment Program Act (RSA 221-A). This measure allowed the state of New Hampshire to purchase lands with conservation value in order to protect them from development. The Trust fostered the implementation of this act by identifying appropriate lands to preserve and by aiding landowners to apply to the Land Conservation Investment Program (LCIP) in order to protect their lands from development. The Trust also aided landowners in preserving their lands for conservation purposes through conservation easements. In 1993 both the LCIP and the TNHL closed, their terms having ended. Over 100,000 acres were protected under the LCIP with the aid of the TNHL.
