John W. Hurd Tavern Ledger, 1837-1862
The ledger says (probably in the dealer's hand) that it belonged to John W. Hurd of Rochester, New Hampshire. It is not possible to determine with any certainty from the ledger itself whether this is accurate: either that it belonged to John W. Hurd or that he lived in Rochester. One thing is certain: he is not listed in the Rochester history of 1892 nor is his tavern mentioned in the section on taverns. Similarly, checking some of the names in the "Memorandum of Names" at the back of the ledger yielded no results.
The ledger records accounts for a number of residents [of Rochester, New Hampshire?] between 1837 and 1861. There is a "Memorandum of Names" at the back of the ledger.
