UNH Welcomes Five New Librarians

We are pleased to welcome five new faculty librarians to the UNH Library: Megan Bresnahan, Wendy Jo Girven, Hannah Hamalainen, Eugenia Liu, and Benjamin Peck.

Megan Bresnahan

Megan comes to us from the Tisch Library at Tufts University where she coordinated library support for research, teaching, and learning for departments in the sciences, social sciences, and engineering. Prior to Tufts, Megan worked at the University of Colorado Boulder, where she was the Head of the Gemmill Library of Engineering, Mathematics & Physics, and she started her career as a Medical Librarian at Boston University.

Her research focuses on emerging services for scholarly communication and research data management in libraries and developing practical learning opportunities to help subject librarians provide support in these areas. She is the co-director of the DataQ Project and a member of the New England E-Science Program Advisory Board.

Wendy Jo Girven

Wendy Jo recently joined the Library as the Business and Data Reference Librarian. She serves as the subject librarian for the Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics, providing reference services for business disciplines and for social and health sciences data.

Prior to joining UNH, Wendy Jo was the Director of Library Services at Maine Maritime Academy in Castine, ME. Wendy Jo holds an MS in Library Science from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and an MS in International Logistics Management from Maine Maritime Academy. She received her undergraduate degrees from Penn State University.

Hannah Hamalainen

Hannah recently joined the Library as our Geospatial and Earth Sciences Librarian. With a background in both geology and the humanities, Hannah joins UNH from Stanford University where she was the Earth Sciences Librarian.

Previous to that she worked at the United Nations Dag Hammarskjöld Library and the RTP Environmental Protection Agency Library and was a rural newspaper reporter in North Carolina. She is currently the VP/Pres-Elect of the Geoscience Information Society. Originally from southern Maine—after 15 years away—she is glad to be back home!

Eugenia Liu

With experience at the Health Sciences Library at SUNY Buffalo and the College of Pharmacy at Western New England University, Eugenia is eager to bring her dedication to collaboration and evidence-based practice into her role as Health and Human Services Librarian. Eugenia earned a bachelor’s degree in Art History from Georgia State University and a Master of Library Science degree from SUNY Buffalo.

Benjamin Peck

Ben has joined the faculty as our First Year Instruction Librarian. He will lead initiatives focused on teaching foundation level information literacy and research skills to first-year students and assist subject librarians in delivering instruction for other first-year undergraduate courses and programs across the university. As an instruction librarian he brings a passion for information literacy and experience with innovative lesson planning to the UNH Library.

Ben earned a bachelor’s degree in Music from Bates College and a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Indiana University.
