Government Information presents its latest featured resource, NOAA's Civil War Coastal Surveys.

In 1807, President Thomas Jefferson established the Survey of the Coast to produce the nautical charts necessary for maritime safety, defense, and the establishment of national boundaries. Within years, the United States Coast Survey was the government’s leading scientific agency, charting coastlines and determining land elevations for the nation. In 1861, the agency adjusted quickly to meet the needs of a country at war.

Government information presents its latest featured resource from the National Weather Service, The Space Weather Prediction Center.

The Space Weather Prediction Center is the nation's official source for alerts, watches, and warnings on space weather. They are the primary warning center for the International Space Environment Service. They also work with many national and international partners with whom they exchange data, products, and services.

The Space Weather Prediction Center provides real-time monitoring and forecasting of solar and geophysical events which impact satellites, power grids, communications, navigation, and many other technological systems. SWPC also explores and evaluates new models and products and transitions them into operations.

NOAA Hurricane Central, new featured resource from Government Information

Government Information presents our latest featured resource from the NOAA Hurricane Central 2012. This resource features satellite and radar of current storms, archived data of past storms, and educational resources about hurricanes.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is a part of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) located at Florida International University in Miami, Florida. Their mission is to save lives by issuing the best watches, warnings, forecasts, and analyses of hazardous tropical weather.

New featured resource: Marine geology and geophysics from NOAA

Government information presents its latest featured resources, the newly redesigned site for the National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

The site includes underwater dive animations, an in-depth look at paleoclimatology, and information on tsunamis and other mega-events. Resources are arranged alphabetically and range from "A Library of Mud: NPR Science Friday Video" to "Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Online Expeditions."
