New database trial: Congressional Hearings Digital Collection

November 27, 2012

The Library is currently subscribed to a new database trial: Proquest Congressional Hearings Digital Collection.

In these hearings, Congressional committees assess, amend, approve or kill legislation, as well as oversee the implementation and effectiveness of previously enacted legislation falling under their jurisdiction. This database gives researchers access to the content of both published and unpublished hearings. The database consists of 3 parts – Retrospective A covering 1823-1979 (approximately 73,000 titles); Retrospective B, covering 1980-2003 (approximately 44,000 titles); and the "prospective" subscription, 2004 – present. We are trialing Retrospective B.

To search only the hearings, go to advanced search in the left hand column. Then on the lower center of the screen deselect everything other than the hearings. Otherwise you will be including in the search other congressional publications that are not part of the trial. If you wish, you may want to specify the dates of collection B (1980-2003).

As always, if this database us useful for your research, please leave a comment here or contact our electronic resources librarian.
