Problems with off-campus library access when using the new UNH VPN

Posted May 23, 2014

The University is implementing a new VPN (virtual private network) service called Connect VPN. While this VPN service is easy to use, it is currently incompatible with our system of authenticating users for off-campus access to our electronic resources and some services.

The Library IT team is working with UNH IT to come up with a solution to this issue. In the meantime, we suggest one of the two following methods for successfully accessing the Library’s electronic resources or our interlibrary loan system (ILLiad):

  1. Avoid using the VPN to connect to the Library while off-campus. Access databases, electronic journals, electronic books, and interlibrary loan through the Library’s website and authenticate with your UNH username and password.
  2. If you must use the VPN to access other UNH resources and want to access Library resources at the same time, please use the Faculty/Staff VPN located at This is the older VPN system and it still works with off-campus access to library resources.
