July 30, 2009

As of 3pm today, July 31, 2009, UNH students, faculty, staff who wish to use Cat’s Cache to print or copy in the Library will need a new UNH ID card. Old UNH ID cards will be declined when attempting to use Cat’s Cache.

For more information on how to obtain a new UNH ID card, please see the UNH Student ID Replacement Project website [pdf].

Continuing students needing to use Cats-Cache before the scheduled time to get their ID in late August/early September have these options:

Commuter students should be able to pickup their new ID starting August 1, 2009 in the MUB (outside Holloway Commons, near the mailboxes).

Resident students need to contact Dining ID office in Rm 101, Holloway Commons, though your new UNH ID may not be ready before late August.

If your new UNH ID is not ready — or you are not a UNH student, faculty member, or staff — you can always use a Cat’s Cache guest card to copy or print in the library.

For more information about Cat’s Cache, please see the UNH Dining website.

This is a Cat's Cache guest card.

This is a Cat's Cache guest card.

Cat’s Cache provides cashless access to products and services all over campus and at many local businesses and is available for anyone to use including students, faculty and staff. Cat’s Cache is used for printing and copying in the library.

If you have a UNH ID, you can print using Cat’s Cache already. You do not need a guest card, just use your ID instead.

A Cat’s Cache card allows you access to an account where you can deposit funds and then use them to pay for printing in the Clusters, copying in the Library, food from Dining or the vending machines, laundry in the dorms, and many other services on and off campus. Full details at the UNH Dining website.

How To Use

Think of this like an ATM or debit card. First, you deposit funds. Then, you use the card to access those funds to pay for things. Most of all, don’t throw this card away! If the balance is zero, you can still add funds to the account to use it again and again.

When purchasing a guest card, it is best to use a single dollar bill to purchase the card and add value separately. If you instead use a larger denomination bill to purchase a guest card, you must re-insert the card immediately or you will lose the added value.

Where To Add Funds

You can add funds online using a credit card, or use cash or a credit card in all dining halls, Dimond Library, McConnell Cluster, MUB, Gables, and the ID Office in Holloway Commons.

How To Protect Your Money

First, do not lose your card! It is like losing cash. Record the ID number on your card somewhere safe. Also, register your card online. If you have the ID number or have registered the card, you can get your money back at the UNH Dining ID Office, located in Holloway Commons.

Not having to use the Microforms room has been bragging rights among new researchers to UNH, because microforms can seem intimidating.

The Library has come up with a way to help calm those fears. Microforms is now home to two new computers that can be used to make scans to PDF.

If the Microform is in good condition (not a lot of scratches and readable text), the Adobe Acrobat software can even do optical character recognition (OCR), so the text can be searchable and cut and pasted into other applications.

The scans can be saved to a USB flashdrive, emailed, burned to CD, or even sent up to the networked printers at Reference on Level 3 for Cats Cache printing at half the cost.

For more information, contact the Microforms supervisor or stop by Microforms on Level 2.
