We’re happy to announce that the library now provides site-wide access to The Senses, A Comprehensive Reference online.

From the publisher:

This major new publishing event provides the first up-to-date, cutting-edge, comprehensive reference work combining volumes on all major sensory modalities in one set in three decades. Under the guidance of a distinguished team of international experts, 6 volumes collected 300 articles from all the top scientists laying out our current knowledge on the anatomy, physiology, and molecular biology of sensory organs.

As always, please let us know if this is a valuable resource for your research. Comments can be posted here or sent to the Electronic Resources Librarian.

National Public Radio has recently produced a story about libraries’ decisions to digitize their collections, whether through corporate sponsors like Google or non-profit organizations like the Internet Archive.

As a member of the Boston Library Consortium, the University of New Hampshire Library is participating in the Internet Archive’s Open Content Alliance (OCA) book digitization project by contributing public domain materials from its collection. Since scanning began in January, the Library has contributed more than 126,454 pages to the OCA Northeast Regional Scanning Center at the Boston Public Library.

For more information, see our Digital Collections.

The library is happy to announce a new web exhibit entitled “Investing in Diversity at UNH: The Turbulent Years, 1968-1972.”

The exhibit chronicles the beginnings of conscious inclusion of diversity in the community and curriculum at UNH from 1968-1972. It is a virtual extension of a display created by the library last year. Included in the exhibit is Mrs. Myrna Adams, UNH’s first black administrator, who will be the keynote speaker at the UNH Diversity Banquet on May 3.

The exhibit was created by Jody Fernald, Amie Familgetti, and Jennifer Carroll.

The exhibit creators thank Mylinda Woodward, Rob Wolff, and Meredith Ricker for their assistance. We also thank Elizabeth Slomba for hosting us on the Archives webpage.
