Dr. Sherry Vellucci, one of four finalists for the position of Dean of the University Library, will join the UNH community on February 1, 2008.

Vellucci brings a wealth of administrative expertise, as well as extensive experience in teaching, research, and curriculum development, along with leadership skills honed in national and international professional associations. Vellucci also brings a strong interest in the application of cutting-edge technology in the academic library environment and an understanding of Library 2.0 — a movement that places greater emphasis on user-centered technology and a more service-oriented approach to all aspects of library functions.

Most recently a full-time faculty member at Rutgers University’s School of Communication, Information and Library Science, Vellucci also administered the Division of Library and Information Science at St John’s University (New York)— successfully leading the school through the ALA reaccreditation process—restructured the curriculum to include a concentration in Digital Libraries, and served on the Dean’s Council, University Senate and the Liberal Arts Faculty Council. She was Director of the Library at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey where she administered the Main Library, Performance Collection, Media Center, College Archives and Special Collections.

“While at Westminster, I learned the importance of building community — I established the Friends of the Library Group and worked closely with faculty to provide the collections and services to support their performances and scholarship.” says Vellucci.

Vellucci received a Doctorate in Library Science from Columbia University, a Master of Science in Library Science from Drexel University and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Rutgers University.

A productive scholar, Vellucci has published two books, eight book chapters, and more than 16 articles in such journals as Library Resources & Technical Services, Cataloging & Classification Quarterly, Fontes Artis Musicae, and the ASIST Bulletin

“With strong ties to the New England area (I worked at the Cambridge Public Library, my parents retired to Hampton and my brother lived in Madbury, New Hampshire and South Berwick and Eliot, Maine) I’m looking forward to returning to the Seacoast – an area where I already feel at home,” says Vellucci.

“I couldn’t be more pleased with this appointment,” said Provost Bruce Mallory. “Sherry will be an excellent dean and a valuable member of our community.”

The UNH Library Toolbar is a plug-in for your web browser which provides a set of tools to search the library catalog and databases. It is available for both Firefox and Internet Explorer. Find out how to download and install the UNH Library Toolbar.

The Library Toolbar allows you to:

  • Search the library catalog or selected databases directly from your browser rather than having to navigate to each individual search form;
  • Highlight titles, authors, or keywords from any webpage, right-click, and search them in the library catalog or Google Scholar;
  • Click on embedded “cues,” an icon of Thompson Hall, within the pages of selected search engines and book-related sites like Google.com or Amazon.com. The cues link to a search in the UNH Library catalog for the keywords or ISBN of the title for which you were searching;
  • Highlight ISBNs and generate a list of ISBNs of related titles, with links to the library catalog. The toolbar also automatically turns many ISBNs, ISSNs, DOI IDs, and PubMed IDs found on webpages into a link to a search in the UNH Library catalog.
  • Select a bibliographic citation, drag, and drop it into the toolbar on the diploma icon for Google Scholar. This will perform a search for the citation in Google Scholar and open its best guess for the article in our link resolver, “Find it @ UNH.”

Can’t decide between the Firefox and Internet Explorer versions? The Firefox version supports more embedded cues in sites like the New York Times Book Review and automatically updates when a new version of released.

The UNH Library Toolbar is based on the LibX toolbar developed by Annette Bailey and Godmar Back at Virginia Tech.
