With the start of the fall semester the Government Information Department begins the next phase of its transition. We continue to offer reference, consultation, and library instruction services as in the past but now as part of the Dimond Academic Commons.
In 2007, the UNH Library celebrates its 100th year as a U.S. Federal Depository Library. We will be observing this major anniversary later in the fall. In the meantime, the Library’s Government Documents Department has been undergoing major changes, not the least of which is its change in name. The new name, the Government Information Department, reflects better the scope of the department’s activities.
Government agencies are expanding the types of information they produce and making much of that information available electronically. In addition, both the Government Printing Office and many others are digitizing and making available older government information. Government information ranges from the primary documents related to the founding of the nation through the latest health and consumer information and statistical data. Agency publications and websites cover just about any topic you might imagine. Departmental staff members help patrons find the information they need in this sometimes confusing array of possibilities.

Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9 -11 AM and Tuesday & Thursday 1 – 3 PM. Either Library or Information Technology Support Center staff can direct you, or you can use the buzzer located near the Information Technology Service Center desk.
During the rest of the week, (Monday – Friday 8 AM – 4:30 PM) it is very likely that one of us will be available in person although this is not guaranteed. To be sure we are available, we suggest that you call or email us to set up an appointment. If necessary, other times may be arranged.
The Library’s Class of 1943 Map Room is part of the Government Information Department and contains a collection of topographic maps, nautical charts, aerial photographs, and other maps, as well as digital map resources. By early in the semester, we plan to offer the following hours:
The Map Room will be open from 9 AM.- 4 PM., Monday through Friday. It may be available at other times by request, depending on staff availability.
