The Dimond Academic Commons (DAC) will open on Level Three of the Dimond Library for the fall academic semester. DAC will combine physical and virtual resources in an attractive and comfortable environment where students, faculty, and staff can meet and interact, working individually or collaboratively. It will merge technological and academic resources in one location and offer the support of expert faculty and staff from Dimond Library and CIS with opportunities to add student services from other University departments in the future. These faculty, staff and services will enable responding to students’ and faculty’s teaching and learning needs, and changes in academic technology.
The DAC IT Support Center (ITSC), located adjacent to Dimond 343, will provide a range of computer and network services. The ITSC will combine the services of several CIS departments in one convenient location including the Call Center, Walk-In Services, ResNet, and the Student Computing Clusters. ResNet and Walk-In Services will be relocated from MUB 109 to Dimond Level Three.
CIS and Library faculty and Staff gathered with Tom Franke, Dean Morner and Provost Mallory on Wednesday, June 20th at 3:00 in Dimond Library to celebrate their collaboration in forming the Dimond Academic Commons scheduled to open this fall. If you’re interested, please view the Memorandum of Understanding.
Renovation to the Government Documents desk on Level Three in Dimond will begin next month and the Information Technology Support Center will be moving into the space in early August. Student and faculty response to the plans for an academic commons has been very positive and CIS and Library employees are looking forward to working together to provide the best service possible. If you have any questions, or would like any other information, please feel free to contact Diane Tebbetts, Terri Winters, or Tracey Lauder.
