Welcome back! Over the summer, we’ve been busy making some changes.

The Loan and Reserve Desks in Dimond Library have merged. The newly named Circulation Desk, located near the front entrance, provides check-out services for library materials, laptops, and course reserves. We hope this will help make the Addison Reading Room, the former home of the Reserve Desk, more attractive for quiet study.

New study space is available in Current Periodicals and Newspapers on Level 2 in Dimond Library.

Gwynne H. Daggett (1907- 1969), UNH English professor and lifelong champion of intellectual freedom, was honored on June 12, 2009. Friends and colleagues gathered at the UNH Library for the dedication of the newly named Daggett Instruction Room.

We upgraded our online catalog. You can now export a list of items to email, a feature long requested by our users. Additional improvements include better “Did You Mean” search suggestions and wildcard searching support (e.g., environment*).

Finally, we completed converting library systems to use the new UNH ID numbers for students. These replace the use of social security numbers, improving security.

Good luck as we enter a new academic year!

The new Parker Media Lab in Dimond Library has equipment and workspace for creating collaborative multimedia projects. It supports the efforts to integrate media into teaching and learning.

The Parker Media Lab is part of the Dimond Academic Commons. It is located on Level 2 in Room 237. See the Parker Media Lab hours.

Parker Media Lab can help with:

  • Creating, editing, and reviewing digital media projects
  • Digitizing audio or video
  • Scanning and manipulating images
  • Creating presentations
  • Repair, duplication, transfer, conversion and preservation of media materials

The Parker Media Lab is only available to current UNH faculty and students.

Many thanks to all the UNH Library and Computing and Information Services faculty and staff who worked hard to make the Parker Media Lab a success.

Here’s an easy way to be more sustainable when printing in Dimond and the Engineering, Math, and Computer Science Libraries!

How to print double-sided

  1. In your application, select “Print” from the File menu.
  2. In the Print dialog, choose your printer depending on whether you want black & white or color, if available.
  3. Click the “Preferences.” button
  4. Select the “Paper/Output” tab. Open the drop-down menu for “2 Sided Print” and select “Flip on Long Edge” or “Flip on Short Edge.” You will most likely want “Flip on Long Edge.”
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Print.

That’s it! You’ll save paper, reduce your carbon footprint, and help the Library to be more sustainable. The printers in the Biological Sciences, Chemistry, and Physics branches do not support double-sided printing, unfortunately.

For more help with printing, please see Clusters Printing Information or Printing in the UNH Library. You can also visit the IT Support Center on Level 3 (Main Level) in Dimond Library.

This is a Cat's Cache guest card.

This is a Cat's Cache guest card.

Cat’s Cache provides cashless access to products and services all over campus and at many local businesses and is available for anyone to use including students, faculty and staff. Cat’s Cache is used for printing and copying in the library.

If you have a UNH ID, you can print using Cat’s Cache already. You do not need a guest card, just use your ID instead.

A Cat’s Cache card allows you access to an account where you can deposit funds and then use them to pay for printing in the Clusters, copying in the Library, food from Dining or the vending machines, laundry in the dorms, and many other services on and off campus. Full details at the UNH Dining website.

How To Use

Think of this like an ATM or debit card. First, you deposit funds. Then, you use the card to access those funds to pay for things. Most of all, don’t throw this card away! If the balance is zero, you can still add funds to the account to use it again and again.

When purchasing a guest card, it is best to use a single dollar bill to purchase the card and add value separately. If you instead use a larger denomination bill to purchase a guest card, you must re-insert the card immediately or you will lose the added value.

Where To Add Funds

You can add funds online using a credit card, or use cash or a credit card in all dining halls, Dimond Library, McConnell Cluster, MUB, Gables, and the ID Office in Holloway Commons.

How To Protect Your Money

First, do not lose your card! It is like losing cash. Record the ID number on your card somewhere safe. Also, register your card online. If you have the ID number or have registered the card, you can get your money back at the UNH Dining ID Office, located in Holloway Commons.
