Government Information presents its latest featured resource, NOAA's Civil War Coastal Surveys.
In 1807, President Thomas Jefferson established the Survey of the Coast to produce the nautical charts necessary for maritime safety, defense, and the establishment of national boundaries. Within years, the United States Coast Survey was the government’s leading scientific agency, charting coastlines and determining land elevations for the nation. In 1861, the agency adjusted quickly to meet the needs of a country at war.

The UNH Traditional Jazz Series presents Luciana Souza: Brazilian Duos featuring Romero Lubambo on Monday, March 31 at 8pm in the Johnson Theater at the Paul Creative Arts Center.
Tickets are $8 for general admission and $6 for students and senior citizens. Tickets are available at the PCAC box office, Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., by calling (603) 862-PCAC (7222), by purchasing tickets online, and at the door one hour prior to performance.
Luciana Souza is one of Jazz's leading singers and interpreters. She was born in São Paulo, Brazil into a family of Bossa Nova innovators. Luciana's work as a performer transcends traditional boundaries around musical styles, covering jazz, world music, and venturing into classical repertoire and new music.
Romero Lubambo's guitar playing unites the styles and rhythms of his native Brazilian musical heritage with his fluency in the American jazz tradition to form a distinctive new sound. From the cool, sophisticated rhythms of his native Brazil to hard bop, Romero is a guitarist who's comfortable in any musical setting. He is an uncommonly gifted soloist and musical improviser with a knack for unpredictable and creative musical thoughts.
The Traditional Jazz Concert Series is co-sponsored by the New Hampshire Library of Traditional Jazz. The library, established in 1978 by Dorothy Prescott, comprises books, recordings, and memorabilia and is housed in Dimond Library. Prescott’s generous endowment funds its activities including the Traditional Jazz Series concerts.

Work is now underway to replace lamps and add motion light sensors on Levels 2 and 4 in Dimond Library. This work has been funded by a federal grant and is designed to improve energy efficiency.
The existing motion lights on Levels 1, 4, and 5 will be adjusted so they come in within 2-5 feet of each row entrance. The new motion lights are dual sensing – they sense heat as well as motion – so, no getting up to wave your arms when sitting motionless for more than a few minutes.
