Instructions for scanning microfilm into .tiff or .pdf files and how to save to zip disk, or to another network connected computer
- Turn on the Canon 400 microform scanner (to the right of the microforms desk) and the Zip Disk drive, then load film or fiche.
- Next, turn on the computer. It doesn’t need a password.
- Make a new folder in the "D drive" and name it so you can find it again.
- Then open the "Scan film" program located on the Desktop.
- Adjust the microfilm/fiche on the scanner, inside the green stickers.
- On the scan program bar on the left of the computer screen, press the Low Resolution button, then the scan button, and that should activate the scanner and send a digital image to the computer screen.
- Continue to scan the document you need page by page, making sure they appear as you want them to appear.
- When you have finished scanning the pages you need, select either .tiff or .pdf on the "extension type" button.
- Next, to save the pages you scanned you must find the symbol to the right of the phrase Save File and Path name that is a series of dots like this "....".
- This will open a box where you need to pick the "D drive" and find the folder you created at the beginning, Next, where it says choose name type in a name, and do not bother typing an extension (eg: .tiff) after it, the program knows to add that. After typing a name press Save.
- Go find the folder you created and check that the item you wanted to save actually saved to the place you wanted it to.
- Then you can drag your saved file into the Zip drive.
- Or you can FTP the item to another networked computer on Campus.
- If you want to try and email scanned pages to yourself you will have to save each page individually. Trying to save multiple pages to an email is usually not possible (it would be too big), this goes for saving to a floppy as well. You can only save one or two pages per floppy.
