Guide to the Robert J. Connors Writing Center Files, 1994-2010

Collection number: UA 3/6/1
Size: 6 boxes (2.2 cu.ft.)

About Robert J. Connors and the Writing Center

English professor Robert J. Connors was a distinguished scholar in rhetoric and composition who had joined the UNH teaching faculty in 1984. He was the author or co-author of six books and more than 60 articles in his field, and helped to establish the UNH Writing Center, the Writing Across the Curriculum Program, and the Beal Collection, a national archive of composition manuscripts. Known for his active and eloquent participation in university matters, he also acted as Vice Chair of the Faculty Senate and would have assumed the chairmanship had he not died in a motorcycle accident in Durham.

The UNH Writing Center was named in his honor, and provides free writing assistance to students and members of the University community in a no-pressure environment. Highly skilled peer consultants have backgrounds in many different academic disciplines and are trained to work with students on all forms of writing during any stage of the writing process. The Connors Writing Center is located in Room 7 on the bottom level of Hamilton Smith Hall. The Writing Center also offers an Online Writing Lab (OWL) that allows access to resources and provides help with a paper over the internet.
