From the Coast:
Take INTERSTATE 95 to PORTSMOUTH
Go West on the Spaulding Turnpike (Rt. 4 &Rt. 16 and exit 4 from I-95) toward Durham and Concord. Take exit 6W (last exit before toll). Follow signs to Durham and Concord on US Rt. 4 West, approximately 4 miles. Take the exit for NH Rt. 108 to Durham and Dover. Go left at the bottom of the ramp. Follow NH Rt. 108 into Durham, go past the gasoline stations, and up the hill past the churches.
At the bottom of the hill, after the churches, you MUST take a right at the Post Office. You will be on Madbury road. Quickly get into the left lane and take the first left onto Pettee Brook Lane. Get into the right lane and follow the road to the intersection of Main Street where you must take a right. On Main St. get into the center lane and take the second left turn. This will take you into the Thompson Hall (metered) parking lot. The Library is just behind Thompson Hall.
Second Choice:
Follow I-95 NORTH from Boston. When approaching the Portsmouth, N.H. area, take the exit on the left, marked "NH Lakes and Mtn Region, Routes 4 & 16." Continue on that road to EXIT 6W (Concord-Durham) and follow Route 4 WEST. Go beyond the UNH/Durham Route 108 exit and continue for 1 1/2 miles to the traffic light. Turn LEFT at the light onto Madbury Road. Take the FOURTH RIGHT onto Edgewood Road. Follow to the end and take LEFT onto Main Street. Take a right into Thompson Hall Parking Lot between the brick gate posts. The Library is just behind Thompson Hall.
From Dover, NH:
Take NH Rt. 108 South toward Durham, about 4 miles. Go past the DURHAM gasoline stations, go past the junction of Rt. 108 to NEWMARKET. Go to the right up the hill past the churches. At the bottom of the hill, after the churches, you MUST take a RIGHT at the post office. You will be on Madbury Rd. Quickly get into the LEFT LANE and take the FIRST LEFT onto Pettee Brook Lane. Get into the RIGHT LANE and follow the road to the intersection of Main Stree where you must take a right. On Main St., get into the center lane and take a left turn between the brick gate posts into the Thompson Hall Parking Lot. The Library is just behind Thompson Hall.
From Rochester, NH:
Go South on NH Rt. 125 to the Lee Traffic Circle. There take US Rt. 4 East toward Durham and Portsmouth. Take the second exit from UNH & Durham. At the end of the ramp, go right. There will be barns to your left. Go past the football field on your right and cross the bridge over the railroad tracks. Go through the traffic light. Turn at the first right. This will take you into the Thompson Hall Parking Lot. The LIBRARY is just behind Thompson Hall.
From Hartford, CT:
Take I-84/I-86 East out of Hartford to the Mass. Pike (I-90). Drive East to Auburn, Exit 10, then East on I-290 to I-495 North, Exit 26. Continue North to I-95, then follow the directions given above for driving from Boston.
From Portland, ME:
Follow either I-95 or Route 1 South to the Portsmouth Traffic Circle. Take the Spaulding Turnpike North to Exit 6W (Concord/Durham). Directions are then the same as those indicated above for driving from the Boston area.
From Concord, NH:
Head East toward Portsmouth on US Rt. 4 (This road is also US 202 and NH Rt. 9 for part of the way. You stay with US Rt. 4). Cross NH Rt. 28 at the Epsom traffic circle. Continue East on US Rt. 4 until you cross NH Rt. 125 at the Lee Traffic Circle. After the circle, take the second Exit for UNH & Durham. At the end of the ramp, go Right. There will be barns to your left. Go past the tennis courts on your right and cross the bridge over the railroad tracks. Go through a set of lights at the bottom of the hill. Take a right at the set of brick gate posts. This will take you into the Thompson Hall Parking Lot. The Library is just behind Thompson Hall.
From Manchester, NH:
Take NH Rt. 101 East toward Portsmouth. Exit at NH Rt. 125 in Epping. At the bottom of the ramp is a traffic light. Take a left and head for Durham, Dover, Rochester. You will be on Rt. 125 Northbound. Go North on NH Rt. 125 toward Durham, Dover, Rochester until you reach the Lee Traffic Circle. There, take US Rt. 4 East toward Durham and Portsmouth. Take the second Exit for UNH & Durham. At the end of the ramp, go right. There will be barns on your left. Go past the tennis courts on your right and cross the bridge over the railroad tracks. Go through a set of lights at the bottom of the hill. Drive to the set of brick gate posts and take a Right into the Thompson Hall Parking Lot. The Library is just behind Thompson Hall.
From Haverhill, MA & Plaistow, NH:
Go NORTH on NH Rt. 125 toward Durham, Dover, Rochester until you reach the LEE TRAFFIC CIRCLE. There, take US Rt. 4 EAST toward Durham and Portsmouth. Take the second Exit for UNH & Durham. At the end of the ramp, go RIGHT. There will be barns to your left. Go past the football field on your right and cross the bridge over the railroad tracks. Go through a set of lights at the bottom of the hill. Drive to the set of brick gate posts and take a Right. This will bring you into the Thompson Hall Parking Lot. The Library is just behind Thompson Hall.
From Amesbury, MA & Exeter, NH:
Take NH Rt. 108 North through NEWMARKET, NH. Stay on Rt. 108 for about 3 miles. When you first come into DURHAM, you will cross the Stone Bridge. After the bridge will be the intersection with the gasoline stations. Take a LEFT onto MAIN ST. Go up the hill past the churches. At the bottom of the hill, after the churches, you MUST take a RIGHT at the post office. You will be on Madbury Road. Quickly get into the LEFT LANE ad take the FIRST LEFT onto Pettee Brook Lane. Get into the RIGHT LANE and follow the road to the intersection of Main St., where you must take a right. On Main St. get into the center lane and take a left turn between the brick gate posts into the Thompson Hall Parking Lot. The Library is just behind Thompson Hall.
